Easter Nails #2 Pastels

Happy Easter!

Yay! 4 day weekend! 😀

Pastel colours remind me of Easter so that was the inspiration for this weekend’s nails! I went with Witchery Lilac, Witchery Sorbet (coral) & China Glaze For Audrey.

A bit messy, but forgive me, it’s 1am!

(Why do I insist on doing my nails just before bed?!)

Have a great Easter break everyone!

Easter Nails #1

Sunday night nails!

Let me preface this by saying that this is my first attempt at nail art! I’ve never owned a nail art brush or a dotting tool before now! But I thought, what the heck, lets give this a go!

So I decided to try Easter nails as it is around the corner!

This is what I used to create my look :

image

Top row, L-R: Witchery nail polishes in Mandarin,  Peony, Lagoon & Ocean. Scotch blue painters tape.
Middle row, L-R: Chins Glaze Electric Pineapple, OPI Alpine Snow,  Stripe Rite nail art polish in black, Paper edging scissors (pinking shears blade).
Bottom row, L-R: OPI Chip Skip,  OPI RapiDry, OPI Drip dry. Large dotting tool, fine nail art brush.

First, start by painting your nails in your base colours:

image

Dot a blob of OPI Alpine Snow on a piece of paper, dip your dotting tool into the polish and dot your nail in a random formation:

To paint the chick, paint your nail yellow as the base coat. I used China Glaze Electric Pineapple. Once completely dry, use your paper edging scissors or pinking shears and cut a piece of painters tape so you have crinkly edges on both sides, to give your ‘egg’ shape:

Paint OPI Alpine Snow on the uncovered parts of your nail:

Peel the tape off carefully while the polish is still wet:

I used Stripe Rite nail art polish in black to dot the eyes:

Then take your fine nail art brush and dip it in your orange polish to paint your chick’s beak!

Put a drop or two of OPI Drip dry on your nail, wait 5 mins, then put on your topcoat on your finished nails!

Ta da! Easter nails! Cute, huh?!
What are you doing on your nails for Easter?

If anyone is interested, I have a new & unused set of 15 nail art brushes & 5 dotting tools in my ebay store here:

It’s only $12.95 and it’s the same as what I use on this blog! 🙂

“Duck Egg Nails” Illamasqua Fragile

Tuesday Quickie!

Just got Illamasqua in Fragile in the mail and couldn’t wait to try it!

Duck egg blue is one of my favourite colours! And this polish even has the speckles already in it!

image

Illamasqua Fragile is $16USD.

Usually plain nails just doesn’t seem like “enough” for me, I need some sort of bling or accent nail – but this is so beautiful I just left it alone. Anything more would ruin it!

image

lt kind of seems appropriate to have nails that look like eggs… as Easter is around the corner! 😀

Now l gotta get it in every other coIour it comes in!

Ciate Caviar Manicure In Rainbow

Thursday night nails!

A couple of weeks ago, in the Sunday Style mag, they did a write up on nails:

image

l instantly fell IN LOVE with the Ciate Caviar Nails that were in the article and I had to have it!

I had never heard of the brand before, the article said it was available at Mecca, but when I went to their site it was out of stock 😦

I ended up finding it on ebay from a seller in London.

This is what I used to create my look:

image

1. OPI Chip Skip
2. Ciate Strawberry Milkshake
3. Ciate Caviar Pearls in Rainbow
4. Essie Good to Go topcoat
5. OPI RapiDry topcoat

The Ciate Manicure set comes with the pink polish, caviar pearls, plastic tray & funnel:

image

image

l applied the OPI Chip Skip first followed by 4 coats of Ciate Strawberry Milkshake (I wanted it completely opaque). I put one coat of OPI RapiDry on each finger,  except my ring fingers.

Then I tipped a bunch of the caviar pearls into the plastic tray:

image

Then I put one thick coat of Essie Good to Go topcoat on my ring fingers, I picked up the pearls with the pad of my finger (just press them on – they’ll stick!) and patted the micro pearls onto my still wet topcoat. You gotta work fast before the topcoat dries! I purposely used my Essie topcoat cos it is thick and really tacky – you know how they go when polishes get old!

Tip: if you have any bare spots, just put a drop of topcoat in the bald spot (!) and pat more pearls on until the patch is covered.

Super tip: do NOT put topcoat on top of your pearls! The colour of the micro pearls will start to bleed.

When you are done, use the funnel and tip your unused pearls back into the bottle:

Despite it looking tricky, it was actually really easy. And the end result looks like it takes more effort than it actually does!

How do you like my caviar accent nails?

P.S. For those of you that want Ciate but can’t find it – I’m importing some from the US and will have various sets/colours available in my ebay store in a couple of weeks.

Leave a comment if you want to be notified when they arrive!

Urban Decay Naked Nails

Sunday night is nails night!

(No post last Sunday because my OPI nail apps stayed on for over 10 days! They wore really well – the only thing that made me remove them was my nails grew too long!)

So last week I got the limited edition Urban Decay Naked Nails set sent to me from the US.

Urban Decay are famous for their naked eyeshadow palettes so I was super excited to hear they had ventured into nail polishes!

The set features 6 mini (5ml each) naked nail polishes, from the pack: “Featuring an inspired range of glitters, metallics, creams and shimmers, each gorgeous hue proves that once again, neutral is anything but boring.”

The colours share names with their eyeshadow counterparts.

Naked: A cream nude
Sidecar: A nude glitter
Toasted: A pearl metallic
Smog: A bronze metallic
Hustle: A charcoal/oil slick metallic
Creep: A black base with silver glitter

So, what do you do when you have six polishes, but only 5 nails? I did a nude ombre using Naked as the base under Sidecar 🙂

Two coats; no Sidecar, no topcoat:

With Sidecar over Naked on thumb + OPI RapiDry topcoat:

What do you think of nude ombre? What are your fave nude polishes? (OPI Dulce de Leche is so nude on me, it gives me mannequin hands!)
