Oval nails :(

Saturday quickie!

I didn’t want to, but I had to re-shape my nails into ovals tonight cos I had too many nails with the corners snapped off!

I don’t know what causes it – typing maybe? Maybe I just have weak nails, lol!

Anyhow I was going to my birthday dinner at a poshy french restaurant so I had to reshape them!

What do you think? I think they look really 80s!

80s nails: like Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club! Did she match her nails to her t-shirt?!
image

I miss my square nails (or even squovals!) already!

I’m going to re-do my nails tomorrow, so see ya then, same bat time, same bat channel!

Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year trio – Emerald Nails

Sunday night is nails night!

I am obsessed with the colour emerald right now – I want this emerald ring (Asos):

image

I also want this emerald necklace (Asos):

image

And I want these emerald jeans (Asos), but they’re sold out of my size 😦

image

A few weeks ago, I bought this LA bones jumper and am waiting for it to get cold enough to wear it!

image

Last week my box of makeup & nailpolish that I bought from the US arrived and in it was the Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Emerald polish trio:

image

image

L – R: Emerald Metallic, Emerald Shimmer & Emerald Glitter.

I wanted a mani that used all 3 polishes, so this is what I did…

First Emerald Shimmer as my base colour:

image

Then I taped off a triangular shape:

image

Then filled in the triangle with 2 coats of Emerald Glitter:

image

Pull off the tape while the polish is still wet:

image

And outline the glitter section with green foil tape:

image

On my thumb, I used Emerald Metallic to fill in the bottom triangle:

image

And this is the finished product – Emerald Nails!

image

This will not be my last Emerald mani! I have got two Emerald Julep polishes coming, “Esmeralda” & “Angelina”. I can’t wait til they arrive!

Leopard Nails

Sunday night nails!

I got over fur nails pretty quick! By tonight I kinda wanted to pick the fur off, so it was time for a change!

I’ve been wanting to do a leopard mani for a while. And now I’ve got the tools, I thought, why not!

I started out by painting my base colours – China Glaze “Flip Flop Fantasy” as the neon pink and Sinful Colours “Easy Going” as my accent nail. I don’t know why, but Easy Going is one of my all time favourite colours. It’s kind of an off white that leans a little cream/pink.

image

Then I got my largest dotting tool and did random spots of pink on my ring finger and gold spots (Klean Colour in “Gold Bright”) on the rest of my fingers:

image

I can’t tell you how much the dotting tools have revolutionised my life. Lol! I tried painting the dots with just the regular brush, but the dots are too thick and take forever to dry.

Then I got my Stripe Rite nail art polish in black (the brush is super thin for doing line work):

image

And I started doing the “U” shaped lines around the gold and pink spots. I filled in the blank space on the nail with lines and dots to make the pattern look more ‘leopard print’:

image

The difficulty was in doing the black outlines on my right hand! I am so wonky and shaky painting with my left hand! Anyhow, here’s how my right hand turned out:

image

All in all, I love it! I think the gold on neon pink is an awesome combo! It’s a super easy mani and didn’t take too long either, maybe half an hour all up.

I haven’t put a top coat on yet. It looks good without it, so I’m undecided if a topcoat will make it look better or ruin it. Lol!

Ps. If anyone wants one, I have got 2 more nail art brush/dotting tool sets on sale for $9.95 on eBay here: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=321101616545
+ free shipping within Aus! They’re the same as the set I use myself on this blog!

Ps.ps. It’s my birthday next week – What do I do for birthday nails? I’m going out to eat Mexican, so maybe Aztec nails? Maybe even Day of the Dead nails! Any ideas?!

MUA Fur Effect Nails in Fluffy Bobbin

Friday night quickie!

Lol! That sounds wrong!

Anyhow, nails were chip city, so I wanted to try something for the weekend.

My pot of MUA Fur Effect nail fluff in Fluffy Bobbin (Purple) arrived (bought off eBay from a seller in the UK), so I thought I would try it out.

*Warning* It’s messy! Or maybe I’m not doing it right!  Lol!

So they tell you on the jar to paint your base colour to match your fluff, so I went with Prized Possession Purple from the Nicole by OPI – From the ‘Justin Bieber – Hit Makers Collection’. I shit you not, he endorsed a line of nail polish! (Look how young he looks there, with his original swooshed hair!)

image

Anyhow, this was my first mistake cos it’s a crappy, thin, sheer polish. This is 4 coats and it’s still patchy:

image

Next, I painted my nails with OPI RapiDry topcoat and while still wet, I dipped my nails in the fluff pot:

image

I took the sifter lid off the pot – they tell you to sift the fluff into the lid, but that didn’t work for me – you need more fluff for a good amount of coverage!
This is where I was glad I put a sheet of paper down, cos the fluff gets everywhere!

image

Anyhow, once you ‘roll and press’ your wet nail into the fluff, it comes out like this:

image

You need a brush to brush off the excess fluff – I used an old blush brush and brushed the excess off into the sink. The end result turned out like this:

image

image

It turned out pretty good and furry, but you gotta get it right the first time cos if you get ‘bald spots’, you can’t patch it up!

It feels weird too! It’s kinda velcro-y! I’ve got t-shirt bedsheets and it was getting caught on that.

Surprisingly, the fluff stays on, even when you wash your hands or take a shower. I kinda ‘patted’ them dry when they got wet.

Have you tried Fur Nails?
Have you got any tips?!

Camo nails

Hey gals,

Gotta start the work week with fresh nails… so tonight is camo nails night!

This is what I used to create my look:

image

Top row, L – R: OPI Chip Skip, Julep Popova, Loreal 732 (accent nail), gold foil nail tape, nail scissors.
Middle row, L – R: dotting tool, OPI Dulce de Leche,  OPI mini in Taupe the Space Needle, an OLD bottle of Revlon Street Wear in Forest, Loreal 736.
Bottom row, L – R: OPI RapiDry, OPI Drip dry, Essie Matte About You topcoat.

First I started by painting my base colours, the green is Julep Popova and the accent nail is L’Oréal Resist & Shine in 732 (darkest purple/black):

image

Then I made the chevron on the accent nail with gold foil nail tape,  followed by 2 coats of OPI RapiDry:

image

image

Then I started doing my camo pattern using my dotting tool, starting from lightest colour to darkest. First OPI Dulce de Leche:

image

Then OPI mini in Taupe the Space Needle:

image

Then Revlon Street Wear in Forest:

image

Then Loreal Resist & Shine in 736 (darkest green/black):

image

Then I put on 1-2 drops of OPI Drip dry and waited 5 mins. I wiped the excess off with a cotton wool ball and applied Essie Matte About You topcoat to every nail except my ring fingers:

image

I got a bit of smudging when I applied the matte topcoat – mainly the black bleeding into the lighter colours, but nothing a few touch ups can’t fix!

The girls at work are going to love this – camo is “so hot right now” in my office!

Easter Nails #2 Pastels

Happy Easter!

Yay! 4 day weekend! 😀

Pastel colours remind me of Easter so that was the inspiration for this weekend’s nails! I went with Witchery Lilac, Witchery Sorbet (coral) & China Glaze For Audrey.

image

A bit messy, but forgive me, it’s 1am!

(Why do I insist on doing my nails just before bed?!)

Have a great Easter break everyone!

Easter Nails #1

Sunday night nails!

Let me preface this by saying that this is my first attempt at nail art! I’ve never owned a nail art brush or a dotting tool before now! But I thought, what the heck, lets give this a go!

So I decided to try Easter nails as it is around the corner!

This is what I used to create my look :

image

Top row, L-R: Witchery nail polishes in Mandarin,  Peony, Lagoon & Ocean. Scotch blue painters tape.
Middle row, L-R: Chins Glaze Electric Pineapple, OPI Alpine Snow,  Stripe Rite nail art polish in black, Paper edging scissors (pinking shears blade).
Bottom row, L-R: OPI Chip Skip,  OPI RapiDry, OPI Drip dry. Large dotting tool, fine nail art brush.

First, start by painting your nails in your base colours:

image

Dot a blob of OPI Alpine Snow on a piece of paper, dip your dotting tool into the polish and dot your nail in a random formation:

image

image

To paint the chick, paint your nail yellow as the base coat. I used China Glaze Electric Pineapple. Once completely dry, use your paper edging scissors or pinking shears and cut a piece of painters tape so you have crinkly edges on both sides, to give your ‘egg’ shape:

image

Paint OPI Alpine Snow on the uncovered parts of your nail:

image

Peel the tape off carefully while the polish is still wet:

image

I used Stripe Rite nail art polish in black to dot the eyes:

image

image

Then take your fine nail art brush and dip it in your orange polish to paint your chick’s beak!

image

image

Put a drop or two of OPI Drip dry on your nail, wait 5 mins, then put on your topcoat on your finished nails!

image

Ta da! Easter nails! Cute, huh?!
What are you doing on your nails for Easter?

If anyone is interested, I have a new & unused set of 15 nail art brushes & 5 dotting tools in my ebay store here:

It’s only $12.95 and it’s the same as what I use on this blog! 🙂
